I just finished this book:
And I loved it! I think you will, too. Even if you aren’t fond of chickens, you will fall for Sophie Brown’s chickens. They are, well, the title of the book says it all: unusual. And so is the enterprising and industrious Sophie, who misses her Abuelita so much after the Brown family moves onto the farm left them by Great Uncle Jim, that she writes frequently, even though it’s unlikely even Gregory — mail person extraordinaire– can deliver the letters. (What is the zip code for heaven?)
This copy was provided by the publisher and I would love to share it with someone. Leave a comment below and I’ll select a name on Sunday!
This book has been getting some buzz. I am looking forward to a chance to read it. Thanks for the post and the chance to win.
I sat next to Kelly at the last Inside Story. Or maybe it was pizza BEFORE Inside Story. At any rate, her book looks as delightful as she is!
My youngest daughter loves chickens. Since we couldn’t have a real chicken running around in our apartment we bought her a brown puppet chicken. She loves it and am sure she would love this book too.
my girls would love this book!
Elizabeth, if I don’t hear from you soon, I’m going to draw another name!
I would love to add this to my classroom library!
I think I’d love this book.
Ooh, just finished this book today and I loved it. It makes me wish my chickens had a few superpowers of their own!!
“What is the zip code for heaven?” Love that line. It alone makes me want to read this book. The fact that you recommend it doesn’t hurt either.
The title of this book reminds me of Freya the chicken with her zebra stripes feathers in Quinny and Hopper by Adriana Brad Schanen. I’m not sure how I feel about real chickens, but I love chickens in stories!!!
I would love to have this for my classroom library!!! I have read it and think it would be great for my group of kids!!!
We are building a chicken coop! I look forward to reading your new book.
I was able to read a digital ARC of this book and it’s very good! 🙂
This book would be great in my new school library!
Would love to have this for a library read aloud. Thanks for the chance.
You can’t help but to root for Sophie and chickens in this book! A great middle grade read.
Looks like an awesome book! Would love to share it with my 5th grade students. Thank you for this opportunity! Kids win when you give away books!
Would love this for my classroom!!
I assigned every comment a number and, using a Random Number generator came up with 13 which was Elizabeth’s number! Woo-hoo for Elizabeth! If you could email me at kirby@kirbylarson.com with your mailing address, you will soon have Kelly’s book in hand.
Thanks to all for participating!
Lucky Number 13! Congrats, Elizabeth! And thanks, Kirby, for the book recommendation and giveaway.
Just wanted to say thank you all (and especially Kirby!) for your Unusual Chickens enthusiasm! It’s been so neat to see readers enjoying my book.
